Please Note: This article applies only to schools using Parent Hub linked with their MIS.
Parent Hub comes with a built-in text messaging service that runs neatly alongside our app service. It comes with the added benefit of allowing you to send attachments via SMS as well - meaning no one has to miss out on receiving your weekly newsletter.
There's a cost for sending messages via SMS, but we have good news - as parents register and verify themselves on the app, you'll automatically stop sending them texts and switch to app messages only (which are FREE)!
We recommend making sure that text messaging is initially enabled for at least 1 parent for every student.
How to turn on SMS sending for Priority 1 contacts
1. Click on 'Contacts'
You can access this from the Dashboard, or by clicking on the Features Menu in the top right corner of the screen and selecting it from the available options (Admins only).
2. Select the 'Student Contacts' tab at the top of the screen
This table displays every contact in RM Integris that has parental responsibility for at least 1 child at your school.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the table and change the 'Per Page' dropdown from '20' to 'All'
You'll need to do this to ensure the changes you're about to make will apply to everyone in the table, and not just the 20 entries in the page you're on currently.
4. Scroll to the top of the table to click on '+ Add a filter'
This will launch a pop-up from which you can select different categories to filter the entries in your table.
5. Select 'Priority' from the Categories dropdown, and then choose 'Priority 1'
You can apply multiple filters by clicking the '+' icon under your first filter category. This way you can filter your results to display, say, all Priority 1 OR Priority 2 contacts, or, all Priority 1 contacts with children in Year 2.
When you've finished adding filters, tap the blue 'Add Filters' button.
6. Click on the select all checkbox in the top left of the table
This will select every filtered student contact in your MIS, except those without a mobile number.
7. Click on the 'Bulk Action' dropdown and select 'Turn on SMS'
When the table updates, for each filtered contact you'll see an orange SMS bubble in the 'Contactable via' column. For now, when you send them a message, they'll receive it via SMS.
As parents verify themselves on the app, you'll notice their icon switch to a green mobile phone. From then on we'll stop sending texts to that parent and your communication with them will be FREE!
