With Private Channels you now have the ability to control exactly who can – and can’t – see and join your school channels.
There are 2 ways you can add someone to a channel:
- Parents and carers (with parental responsibility) are added when you link an MIS group in which they have a student, e.g. Year 2.
- Additional contacts, staff and governors can be added manually.
In this guide, we’ll cover the second method.
Let’s suppose you’ve created a private channel for the Rabbits class, and you want Grandma Pickles to follow the channel too.
Quick-start guide
Step-by-step guide
First, click Actions > Manually add followers in the Channel Settings menu
On the next page, you’ll see a list of everyone who currently follows your school on the app, listed the same way as they appear in your Admin area: All Followers | Verified Parents | Other Followers
Scroll to browse through the list, or search to quickly find who you’re looking for. To see more details about a contact, click on their name. You’ll see:
- when they signed up
- which email address they entered
- whether they’re verified and linked to any students in your MIS
Check the box, and click Add
When you’ve finished adding app followers, click Add Followers in the bottom-right corner.
And that’s it! The people you’ve added won’t need to do anything – next time they open their Parent Hub app, they’ll see this channel.
Please note: whereas linked MIS groups stay up to date by copying any changes in your MIS daily, manually-added followers will remain following this channel until you remove them or they stop following your school.
